Analysis Of Tim Mccanlies s Second Hand Lions

1. The title of Tim McCanlies’s movie, â€Å"Second Hand Lions† is extremely significant to the meaning behind the whole story. Hub is one of the main characters in the movie, he is a man in his older years who has been through many hard times and has seen any number things. In his prime he was a fighter, a brave man unafraid of any challenge. He succeeded at many thins and could do as he pleased. Therefore, the reality of getting old was painful and frustrating for a man so full of passion and energy, and he struggled to find his purpose. When his nephew Walter was left to live with him, he forced some prospective on to Hub. Near the end of the movie Walter gives a speech to Hub telling him that he can’t just sit around and wait to die. He explained that there are plenty of things to live for even when life seems impossibly hard. Walter explained how he looked up to Hub and wanted him to be there to raise him and help him become a man. Earlier in the movie Hub o rdered a lion in hopes of hunting it, but when it arrived it was old, worn out and tired, they called it a second hand lion. Later in the story that second had lion sacrificed itself to save Walter. Hub is just like that secondhand lion. He may be out of is prime and his crazy adventurous days may be over, but he still has fight left in him, and more importantly he has many valuable life lessons that he has yet to share. Walter offers Hub a chance to relive his younger years, and allows him to find meaning in his older

An Article Published By Arthur C. Brooks, A Writer For

An article published by Arthur C. Brooks, a writer for The Washington Post, stated that â€Å"We are not a perfect opportunity society in the United States. But if we want to approach that ideal, we must define fairness as meritocracy, embrace a system that rewards merit, and work tirelessly for true equal opportunity† (4). Brook’s statement expresses the views of our society today, as it is widely accepted that a society with meritocracy is favorable over a society with social determinism in America. However, there is often altercation when discussing whether or not meritocracy is present in our modern day society. The Civil Rights movement, feminist movements, and immigration movements have all brought our society towards meritocracy.†¦show more content†¦Even worse, certain groups of the population have even a harder time moving up in economic class. For people born in the bottom fifth of the wealth distribution who have unmarried parents, their chances of â€Å"moving up to the top distribution are even slimmer [5%]† (Is America 2:20-2:27). Statistically, there is also a racial inequality when it comes to social mobility. African Americans who are born in the bottom quintile of the wealth distribution â€Å"have a 50% chance of being stuck at the bottom and a 4% chance of making it all the way up to the top.† (Is America 1:40-2:48). Because of underlying racism and environmental factors, African Americans are not as socially mobile as the white majority in America. In an article which proves the barriers limiting success for immigrants, Zenen Jaimes Perez explains that undocumented immigrants’ â€Å"path to higher education remains difficult at best, and that few of them actually complete a post-secondary education.† Although these immigrants are often times talented enough to complete a post-secondary education program, there are multiple barriers that immigrants deal with that limit their success. Human Genome Project 2 Essay Example For Students

Human Genome Project 2 Essay It all started back in 1953 with two men by the names ofJames D. Watson and Francis Crick when they discovered thedouble-helical structure of DNA. Little did they know they wereopening the door to the creation of a perfect world. In 1986,the Human Genome Project, led up by the National Institution ofHealth(NIH), took a giant leap through this door. They began thelong process of mapping out the entire genetic makeup of thehuman body. The main purpose of the HGP was originally for theuse of preventing inherent diseases. However, as studiescontinue to progress, increased opportunities arise forgenetically altering the unborn. You are now able to choose thesex of you child before they are born with great accuracy. Whatis on the horizon now, is the possibility of designing your childto be perfect;. Over the years, there has been heated, ethicalcontroversy on each of these issues, especially designer babies. How far will we let biotechnological discovery take us? Whatwill come of the world if designer babies become standardprocedure? The earliest and maybe simplest use of genetic manipulationwas in the selection of the sex of an unborn child. In VitroFertilization(IVF A procedure in which a womans eggs areremoved from her body, fertilized outside using sperm from herhusband or another donor, and then transferred back to her body.)was originally limited to couples that were infertile. Even theuse of IVF for the infertile was unheard of at one point. Butgrowing demand makes it socially acceptable, and now anybodywhos infertile demands IVF,; says Lee Silver, a PrincetonUniversity biologist. Several years ago, fertility clinicsannounced the new possibility of sex selection. It was obviouslyan exciting breakthrough, but when these clinics were inquiredabout their results, they only had about a 50 percent successrate. Its affluent clients could have achieved exactly the sameoutcome by leaving a note for the tooth fairy, requesting a girlor a boy;(Riddell). In the same way, there were many who wereopposed to the idea at first especially with the results theywere getting, but over time the procedures have been almostperfected and it has become socially acceptable.(Lemonick)Many issues have arisen from the possibilities sex selectionwill provide. In cultures where males are valued more thangirls, such as China and India, assured sex selection couldreally throw off an already out of balance society. In theUnited States it may not be as likely for there to be a favoredsex, generally speaking. In our case, it is more of a weightedopinion on what order you should have your kids, what sex shouldcome first. Statistics show that the ideal family has a male asthe firstborn. Males tend to be more assertive and more dominantthan females, as do firstborns. If you put all this together, itseems as though we are headed towards an even more male-dominatedworld. This is obviously a huge issue not only for the feministand gender-role stereotypes, but also for the more general ideaof a balance of nature. Will females eventually fade out ofexistence? That is obviously farfetched, but definitely notimpossible.(Lemonick)At this point, the majority still agrees that the provisionsof genetic engineering should be limited to the correction ofinherent diseases. There are two primary ways that genetics canbe used to treat diseases. The first is gene therapy, in whichone or more genes are injected into the patient to replace thosethat are absent or not working properly. This approach has beenused to treat a broad range of disorders such as heart disease, many forms of cancer, Alzheimers disease, arthritis, AIDS, andmany more. The second way to employ genes to treat diseases isknown as small-molecule therapy. In this approach, the patientis given a small molecule (drug) to modify the function of one ormore genes in the body. When the pioneers of gene therapy firstrequested government approval for their experiments in 1987, theyvowed they would never alter th e patients germline (eggs orsperm).(Begley)Dr. W. French Anderson, who had had a broad background inthe study of gene therapy mainly from the University of SouthernCalifornia, did a lot of work with gene therapy. He had a desireto use gene therapy to cure a fetus of an inherited disease evenbefore it was born. The only problem was the potential of theintroduced genes slipping into the patients egg (or sperm) cellstoo therefore carrying those changes onto the patients childrento .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .postImageUrl , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:hover , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:visited , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:active { border:0!important; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:active , .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8 .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufabcd892c95d806d243fcdad8ab8f2f8:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The baroque has been called a theatrical style, on Essay

The Power of Hurtful Words Essay Example For Students

The Power of Hurtful Words Essay As a little girl, money was scarce. Living in in a tiny apartment poor was well known in my vocabulary. I was around children who had money and opportunity and two parents where I had no money, and just a single mom. Kids laughed when I had holes in my shoes and ripped stockings and none of the popular toys, and parents whispered when my mom couldnt afford to rent a hall for my birthday party or a clown, or a larger cake. It hurt when others pointed it out. I felt ashamed of my small home and my clothes and the word poor, and the fact that it was a woman raising me. We will write a custom essay on The Power of Hurtful Words specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now I would have been happy with politically correct language, but the best would have been if no one had ever pointed it out, then maybe i would not have felt so alienated growing up. The words that offended me hurt as a child but does it mean language should be regulated? The Articles by Kakutani and Lakoff are compared and contrasted based on free speech in language, while both provide great arguments, Lakoff is more persuasive due to her use of logos. Robin Lakoff’s â€Å"Hate Speech† makes compelling arguments about the language that is considered â€Å"the norm†. Lakoff even states the whale every on finds hate speech as, â€Å"deplorable, and no reasonable person would ever indulge in any form of it† (Lakoff 313). She points out repeatedly that hate speech is a form of racism. Social standing is also important as to whether or not people think that hate speech and racism still exist and are a problem according to Lakoff, but she goes on to state that no one can really define speech. Language is, thought mad observable† (Lakoff 314). but how are you to manage and punish that? who is to determine what you can and cant say? Language is, â€Å"sensitive to context† (Lakoff 315), and therefore how are we to determine what is and is not appropriate to punish? Ultimately she says that once we stop giving words the power to change the world then they wont. While Lakoff herself focuses on the regulations of free speech, Machiko Kakutani takes different approach. Talking about the need for political correctness in her article â€Å"the Word Police†, Kakutani admits to needing politically correct language in order to eliminate sexism and racism, â€Å"ut the methods and fervor of the self-appointed language police.. open] the movement to the scorn of conservative opponents and the mockery of cartoonists and late night television hosts† (Kakutani 329). She goes on to talk about other types of racism and how the author Ms. Maggio talks about how in everyday language the word black is used derogatorily and it should be replaces with synonyms, words such as â€Å"ostracize† for â€Å"blackball†, and â€Å"payola† for â€Å"blackmail†, and â€Å"outcast† for â€Å"black sheep†. He bemoans the â€Å"Orwellian willingness to warp the meaning of words by placing them under a high powered idealogical lense† (Kakutani 331). He examine everything with a sarcastic tone of how while it is important, politically correct language also is diminishing itself because of too many regulations. Both writers talk a great deal about politically correct language. Lakoff thinks that racism is rooted in the use of hate speech, but that when the nation stops getting offended by the use of words then the society can enjoy a more forgiving first amendment. Kakutani would agree as she states the universities becoming stricter with politically correct language and taking the words queer and the n word away from the gays and black communities who want to take it out of the hands of the racist and making them their own. The tone of Kakutani is one that is seeming fed up and it translates to a similar frustration with the audience that is also frustrated with the fear of offending someone by unintentionally saying something they thought was fine like â€Å"poor† instead of â€Å"financially challenged†. .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .postImageUrl , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:hover , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:visited , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:active { border:0!important; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:active , .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357 .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0eb970de13b7ef5b6bef89cdec395357:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: An Inspector Calls: Issues and Priestly's Viewpo EssayShe exasperatedly writes that politically correct language doesnt help people, it doesnt give the homeless a place to live, or the help the poor pay the bills, intact the only thing it does do is, â€Å"make it easier to shrug off the seriousness of their situation† (Kakutani 331). The arguments made by Kakutani and Lakoff are both opinionated and strong willed about politically correct language. Lakoff talks about the claims colleges make about how hate speech is on the rise. She even questions as to whether or not it might be a good thing. Maybe it means that minorities are getting heard more often now, or that people feel safe enough to complain about hate speech. Both authors use logos in their papers, however Lakoff is more persuasive because she uses more outside research to prove her point. Kakutani uses outside research like ms. Maggio’s books and it does help when she tries to convey her point to the general audience, however when Lakoff writes her article, â€Å"Hate Speech† she makes the reader feel like she did her research on the topic because of her repeated use of different sources to get her point across. While Lakoff is the more persuasive author due to her use of logos, the bottom line is that hate speech is a problem and these authors understand that. They have arguments that they can back up with counterarguments. The phrases, however, while, and but to name a few. They feel as though words only hurt this much because of how much power is given to these words by society. Bibliography: Goshgarian, Gary. Exploring Language. 13th ed. Boston: Little, Brown, 1977. The article goes on to state that this growing in touristry in such times demands to be examined and looked closely and they urge that states make touristry as a precedence in national degree policies. Findingss from this research will demo how there has been a displacement in the growing of nutrient touristry in Malaysia and how this growing has impacted the local touristry industry. How this growing has resulted in positive and negative impacts on the state Growth in any signifier is good and healthy but with growing there comes positive and negative impacts and these impacts must be examined clearly to avoid any signifier of issue and to be after for future ends. This paper will sketch how the growing in nutrient touristry in Malaysia has resulted in a few positive and negative impacts and how these impacts can be interpreted to back up and guarantee this facet of touristry continues to turn. How this growing has affected the touristry sector and the enterprises taken to guarantee uninterrupted growing in the hereafter The touristry sector in Malaysia has been dining over the past few old ages and nutrient touristry is even more so turning. One of the major motives for tourer to see Malaysia is because of the civilization and heritage that Malaysia possesses and this is expressed in our nutrient and local daintinesss. Peoples from other parts of the universe are eager to cognize, larn and understand how is it that people with different races are able to populate under one roof and let their civilizations to intermix together. When people visit Kuala Lumpur, they are instantly thrown into a cultural detonation and one of the ways they are able to see and larn about the different civilizations is thorough the tasting and partaking of the local nutrient. The chief significance and importance in carry oning this research is that, there seems to be a lifting pandemic in the nutrient touristry sector. This is why this research is of import because this paper is able to foreground the growing of nutrient touristry in Kuala Lumpur and how tourer have changed their motivational factors to see Malaysia. 1.3 Limitation of survey The restriction of the survey is that, it is merely focussed and limited to nutrient and the function it plays in the tourer determination doing procedure. Other influences such as cultural, or heritage or personal grounds to visit are minor and they will non be focused much on. The other restriction to this survey is that, the questionnaires will be answered by tourer and non local people because this paper aims to analyze the tourer grounds to see Malaysia and does nutrient play a function in their determination. The job to that restriction is that the tourers are scattered all around the metropolis so to aim a big figure and obtain different feedback, will be a challenge. The other restriction that will be faced is that this research is merely limited to the Kuala Lumpur milieus and the tourer that stay with this country. This is because most of the tourers that travel to Malaysia stay within the metropolis centre and most of the attractive forces and local nutrient can be found within the metropolis bounds. Besides that, by contracting it down to merely this country, there will be a better and clearer apprehension of the aim that is being achieved. 1.4 Research Questions This paper aims to sketch the growing of the nutrient touristry industry in Malaysia and how will it impact the touristry sector of Malaysia. In any signifier of growing, there is bound to be certain impacts both positive and negative and this paper will take to sketch those impacts and how they affect the local touristry sector. The following inquiry that will originate while carry oning research on this paper is, will at that place be a hereafter for the nutrient touristry industry and if so, how will it be? This is where the inquiry of sustainability will originate whereby, even though there is a growing in the nutrient touristry industry now, wil l it still be the same in the hereafter? All these inquiries will be answered in the latter portion of the research paper. Chapter 2: Literature Reappraisal Malaysia is easy lifting to go one of the cardinal finish musca volitanss among tourist worldwide. This is mostly due to the fact that Malaysia is a state that is developed, diverse, tropical and rich in its civilization and heritage and this can be found in the traditional dances, beliefs, nutrient, patterns and many more. In add-on, nutrient touristry is easy but certainly on the rise here in this state. With the blend of the assorted civilizations and beliefs, nutrient seems to be the best look. When debating approximately nutrient touristry and its growing here in Malaysia, there has to be a separation in order to derive a better apprehension. There has to be a clear definition of nutrient, touristry, nutrient and touristry in Malaysia and how it has an impact on the local touristry sector. 2.1 What is Food? What is nutrient? This may be a simple inquiry yet, it plays a big importance in our day-to-day life. Food is merely defined as a alimentary substance that people eat or drink in order to keep a healthy life and growing. Food is an indispensable point in order to go on with life. The first and chief importance of nutrient in our mundane life is to supply our organic structure with the necessary energy in order for us to transport out our day-to-day modus operandis such as working, walking, external respiration, digesting and so on. Besides that, nutrient aids to modulate the organic structure s procedures and besides to assist contend against infections and diseases. In basic apprehension, nutrient is merely needed in order to populate and transport on with life ; nevertheless, there has been a great trade of alteration in the development of nutrient. 2.2 What is touristry? Tourism is an industry that is quickly turning in the twenty-first century. More and more people are developing an involvement in going and researching all that the universe has to offer. However, many fail to truly understand the true significance of touristry and what it truly comprises of. Tourism is said to be the act of people or a group of people that lead them from one topographic point to another, from one state to a different state, to execute something specific or to see a topographic point for the point of leisure, amusement, concern and so on. The World Tourism Organization defines touristry as the activities undertaken by and single or a group of persons that travel and travel off from their usual topographic point of comfort and environment and this has to be more than a period of 24 hours or more. The grounds behind their travel can be because of leisure, amusement, concern and other activities that are different from their day-to-day modus operandis. Tourism on the ot her manus can besides include the relevant concerns or industries that are involved in supplying services, activities, and installations to the tourer that travel to their state Tourism in any state is of import and important. For states like Egypt, America, Australia, Italy, Malaysia, India and China, a big part of their net incomes and income depend on the touristry industry. Tourism is of import because, it stimulates economic growing for a state. When people travel to a peculiar topographic point, they are bound to pass big amounts of money on the flight, housing, domestic travel and nutrient in the peculiar state they are in. When you spend money in a state, it in return helps the economic growing for that state because the money spent at that place goes to assist out and to cover the cost of development and in the sustaining of the state and its people. The 2nd importance of touristry to a state is that it helps to advance development within that state. Countries around the universe invariably strive to develop and be in the forepart lines in footings of development. Tourism is an industry that acts as a motivational factor for development to happen. W hen there is a demand and a rise in the sum of tourer that travel to a state, the demand for new and modern installations and activities will lift and this is where the state is able to garner its resources and develop the state so that it is able to provide to this turning demand. For illustration, Bangkok, Thailand has seen a major encouragement in its international tourer reaching and the touristry industry has seen this phenomenon and there has been an addition in the sum of lodging installations to assist provide to this demand. They have built new hotels and guesthouse that are modern, clean and low-cost for the turning tourer market. The following importance of touristry to a state is that in footings of sociocultural, it helps to make new occupation chances and calling chances for the locals of that state. When there is any signifier of development in the state, there is bound to be new installations and activities to assist cater to the demand that is turning and when there are new installations and developments taking topographic point, the demand for adult male power and occupation chances will originate and this is where the state is able to utilize the citizens of the state to assist guarantee that these developments in the touristry installations and activities are sustained for old ages to come. 2.2.1 Tourism and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia The touristry industry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is quickly turning in these present times. The touristry industry has registered 11.63 million tourer reachings in the first half of the twelvemonth 2012 which is a 2.4 % addition compared to the same period in 2011. This growing in touristry in Kuala Lumpur is mostly due to the fact that, Malaysia is located in such an ideal location whereby the conditions and clime of the state is tropical the whole twelvemonth around with minimum rain which makes it easy to acquire around and research the metropolis. Besides that, Malaysia in itself is a state that is diverse and rich in its civilization and heritage and this is expressed in our day-to-day modus operandis, local attractive forces, nutrient and beliefs and this gives us a upper manus because no other state in the universe can tout and state that they have 3 different races ( Malays, Chinese and Indians ) populating under one roof and to add, we are all able to acquire along. This is something that foreign tourer find astonishing and they are intrigued by and that is why they want to see Kuala Lumpur. 2.3 What is Food touristry all about? There are many subdivisions to the touristry industry and nutrient touristry is another facet of touristry that is on the rise. Many people may reason and debate that nutrient and touristry have no relationship to each other what so of all time but in world, nutrient and touristry coexist and assist each other because portion of touristry is mostly related to nutrient and frailty versa. One may look at nutrient as a minor function played in the field of touristry but in world, nutrient is critical to guarantee the full circle of a traveler s experience. Hall and Sharples ( 2003 ) say that nutrient is an built-in portion of the experience and how it contributed in a large sense to a individual s holiday. They go on to state that earlier, nutrient was non taken into consideration as something that is of import but of late it has been widely debated approximately. The book says that nutrient Acts of the Apostless as an look of individuality and civilization which is in world true. When going to another state, one is motivated to plunge themselves in the local civilization of that topographic point and later this involves nutrient. For illustration, it would be pathetic if one travels to India and experiences the assorted civilizations without savoring their local nutrient. As mentioned, savoring and plunging in the local daintinesss will assist give a better understanding about the state and its civilization. Over the old ages, the acknowledgment of nutrient touristry has increased and it is seen as a valuable plus the touristry sector has to offer. Even if there are some barriers because of some tourer that are non attracted by the local nutrient, it still represents a critical and competitory advantage for some finishs ( Cohen and Avieli, 2004 ) . 2.3.1 Tourism Motivation: Is nutrient one of it? In basic traveling, there has to be slightly of a motivational factor that causes people to go to that peculiar topographic point. In her book, Tourism Development ( A K Bhatia 1985 ) , she broke down the basic motivational factors for going into four different facets: Physical Motivators This is related to the physical facet of the finish, the activities offered and others. Cultural Motivators Persons in this class are motivated by the beliefs and cultural heritage ( the art, music and dance ) that peculiar finish offers. Interpersonal Motivators This motive is to see household members, relations, or to run into new people. Status Motivators This is derived from the demand to carry through certain activities to hike self -esteem or for personal development. These nevertheless are the basic incentives for going but these incentives change when speaking about going for nutrient based intents. Traveling for nutrient based intents can be linked to the cultural incentives ( as seen above ) or it can be classified as separate facet all on its ain. The incentive for nutrient touristry can be linked to Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs ( Maslow 1943 ) . In this hierarchy, there are 5 different degrees of demands that are to be accomplished and they are physiological, safety, love, and esteem. For case, if a individual is missing love or nutrient or safety, they would likely hanker for nutrient the most because in world, nutrient is needed to last and the other needs come over clip. But the existent inquiry that is to be asked here is that, is nutrient the chief motive for 1s determination in going? Are they going to carry through their demands and desires? Or are they going to plunge themselves in different civilizations? Or even are they adventure s earchers and they want to seek new things? Harmonizing to Sajna ( 2005 ) she conjured up 4 different constructs as to why people participate in nutrient touristry, viz. : Food Neophobia This is related to how adventuresome and unfastened one is to seeking new nutrients. Harmonizing to Pliner and Hobden ( 1992 ) , nutrient neophobia is a personal trait defined as the reluctance to eat or avoid fresh nutrients. Variety- Seeking Tendency This is related to 1s desire for assortment that is due to factors such as alteration in gustatory sensation, restraints and executable options. Hedonic Consumption An facet of consumer behavior that relate to the multisensory, phantasy, and affectional facets of a individual s experience with a certain merchandise. Digesting Involvement The engagement of the tourers in the purchasing and engagement of the traveling and touristry experience. So in decision, nutrient does and will play a function in the determination doing procedure of the tourer when they visit a state. For those tourers that have a love for nutrient and diverseness would be motivated to go to a state to experiment and seek out their local daintinesss and it is this act that is known as nutrient touristry. 2.3.2 Food Tourism in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Malaysia is a state that is rich in its heritage and civilization with the combination of 3 different races populating under one roof viz. Malays, Chinese and Indians. With the blend and combination of these many civilizations and cultural background creates a oasis of many different festivals, sights, heritage and FOOD. This phenomenon can be due to many grounds such as the many historic sights to witness, the green landscape Mother Nature has to offer and besides the endless shopping av ailable to bring around 1s dependence. But other than that, nutrient besides plays an of import function as one of the incentives for tourer to go to Malaysia. Malaysia is known as a state that eats 24-hours a twenty-four hours with eating mercantile establishments runing from traditional and reliable nutrient to modern twenty-four hours culinary art and from route side daintinesss to five star all right dining mercantile establishments. Anything you earn to eat can be found in Malaysia. The Important History of Cellophane

The Important History of Cellophane Cellophane film was invented by Jacques E Brandenberger, a swiss textile engineer, in 1908. Brandenberger was seated at a restaurant when a customer spilled wine onto the tablecloth. As the waiter replaced the cloth, Brandenberger decided that he should invent a clear flexible film that could be applied to cloth, making it waterproof. Brandenberger experimented with many materials, including applying liquid viscose (a cellulose product known as rayon) to cloth, however, the viscose made the cloth too stiff. The experiment failed, but Brandenberger noted that the coating peeled off in a transparent film. Like so many inventions, the original use for Cellophane film was abandoned and new and better uses were found. By 1908, Brandenberger developed the first machine for the manufacture of transparent sheets of regenerated cellulose. By 1912, Brandenberger was making a saleable thin flexible film used in gas masks. La Cellophane Societe Anonyme Brandenberger was granted patents to cover the machinery and the essential ideas of his manufacturing process of the new film. Brandenberger named the new film Cellophane, derived from the French words cellulose and diaphane (transparent). In 1917 Brandenberger assigned his patents to La Cellophane Societe Anonyme and joined that organization. In the United States, the first customer for Cellophane film was Whitmans candy company, who used the film to wrap their chocolates. Whitmans imported the product from France until 1924, when Dupont started manufacturing and selling the film. DuPont On December 26, 1923, an agreement was executed between the DuPont Cellophane Company and La Cellophane. La Cellophane licensed to the DuPont Cellophane Company the exclusive rights to its United States cellophane patents and granted to the DuPont Cellophane Company the exclusive right to make and sell in North and Central America using La Cellophanes secret processes for cellophane manufacture. In exchange, the DuPont Cellophane Company granted to La Cellophane the exclusive rights for the rest of the world the use of any cellophane patents or processes DuPont Cellophane Company might develop. An important factor in the growth of Cellophane film production and sales was the perfection of moisture-proof cellophane film by William Hale Charch (1898-1958) for DuPont, the process was patented in 1927. According to DuPont, DuPont scientist William Hale Charch and a team of researchers figured out how to make cellophane film moisture-proof, opening the door for its use in food packaging. After testing more than 2,000 alternatives, Charch and his team devised a workable process for moisture-proofing Cellophane film. Making Cellophane Film In the manufacturing process, an alkaline solution of cellulose fibers (usually wood or cotton) known as viscose is extruded through a narrow slit into an acid bath. The acid regenerates the cellulose, forming a film. Further treatment, such as washing and bleaching, yields Cellophane. The tradename Cellophane is currently the registered trademark of Innovia Films Ltd of Cumbria UK.

Iraq invasion 2003 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Iraq invasion 2003 - Essay Example American invasion of Iraq has been assessed and reassessed by intellectuals both inside and outside America. Though different people put forward different factors as the reasons behind the invasion, all agree on the fact that America failed to achieve any of its objectives in Iraq. Also, it becomes evident from the circumstances that America was in the dire need of strengthening its geopolitical dominance in the Middle East, and considering the situation of the time, Iraq was the most vulnerable victim. There were three main factors which can prove that the American invasion of Iraq was inevitability. They are the US global grand strategy, the US strategic position in the Middle East, and the ruling coalition in the Bush administration. The motivating factors – the war was inevitable In order to understand the American desire to use coercion as a weapon to ensure American dominance in the world, one has to read The Project for a New American Century. The Project’s State ment of Principles declares that America has a pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Also, it is pointed out that it is important to act before crises emerge, and to face threats before they grow stronger (New American Century, 2000: 4-5). Very similar are the claims in the 2002 National Security Strategy which clearly state that threats to the US would be met using both traditional containment and preventive wars (The White House, 2002: 15). One has to remember the fact that the US global hegemony was, to a great extent, dependent on its protectorate over the oil reserves in the Middle East. Ironically, the biggest threat to American domination also came from the same place; and the best example is the 9/11 attack. Thus, it was clear that America had to reshape the Middle East. In fact, American hegemony over the Middle East oil was getting questioned. In the opinion of Hinnebusch (2007: 213), US and other capitalist countries would im minently face an oil shock as the oil producing Middle Eastern nations were gaining more and more power. First of all, despite the American efforts to impose sanctions on Iraq and Iran, they managed to survive as such sanctions only benefited other nations. To illustrate, Iraq started selling oil concessions to nations like Russia, China and France. Similarly, according to Cramer and Thrall (n.d.: 18), the whole Western Europe wanted to get oil from Iran instead of isolating it; and when America tried to keep its companies away from the so called nations, its rivals were benefiting from the sanctions. Traditionally, Saudi Arabia was playing an important role in providing US with oil help. It moderated oil prices for America throughout the years. However, America was fully concerned about its high degree of dependence on Saudi Arabia for oil needs. Also, the recent years witnessed a decline in the oil pumping capacity of Saudi Arabia making it unable to moderate oil prices anymore (C ommittee on Foreign Affairs House of Representatives 2007: 8). Evidently, al Qaeda and other terrorists were highly dissatisfied with use of American forces to protect Saudi Arabia, and was a motivating factor for Bin Laden to turn against America. As Reno (2012: para. 12-13) points out, it was revealed that Saudi citizens were involved in the 9/11 attack and funding; and this was sufficient for the Zionist lobby in the Bush administration to create an anti-Saudi public opinion in America. Murphy (2011: para. 12) states that, at the same time, Saudi Arabia started looking for alternatives as it felt abandoned by the US. Soon, it reconciled with Iran and Iraq. Thus, as America was losing one swing producer, it wanted to find another one; and Iraq became the primary target (ibid). First of all, it meant that America would again get access to privileged oil, at the same time ensuring its hegemony over its economic rivals like Europe, Asia and the emerging global rival China. Thus, Iraq became a one word solution. The matter can be seen in the military
